The sun is in Aries. What does that mean for your sign?

Aries: March 21 – April 20

While the Sun is in the sign of Aries, the life force in plants, animals and humans is exalted. That which is dormant or seems dead, now re-awakens and begins a new cycle of growth. In human terms, this is when our souls re-commit to being human and to taking on the plethora of experiences that result from that commitment. The human ego is a necessary component of the human condition and is the vehicle through which our souls express. So, during the month of Aries, the energy is up for each of us to more strongly assert the individuality of our soul into the world by claiming our right to be in this world, to hold space, make decisions and take action.

Look below for your birth sign (sun sign) to see what particular challenges/opportunities are being brought to your awareness this month. (These can also hold true if you have your Moon, Rising sign or a number of planets in the sign.)

Aries: For you, Aries, the drive to assert your ego-self into the world comes naturally. Your inner Mars is already wide awake and ready for action, so in “your” month, the challenge for you is less about growing stronger and more about how you go about asserting your strength. You could easily overdo it during this time, letting assertion turn into aggression, forgetting to balance self with other, and running roughshod into battles. The key for you is to be conscious of this past year’s lessons of relationship in Libra and soulfulness in Pisces and integrate them into your ego’s service to your greater self.

Taurus: Taurus, the invitation for you during this month of Aries is to let your knowledge of who you are, your likes and dislikes, inform what you value in this world. Your Martian willfulness is here to help you get, make, build or attract what you value. By asserting your right to pursue your desires, you create abundance for yourself and those you love. Pay attention to where you short-change yourself due to low self esteem and feelings of unworthiness. Value yourself and your life, above all.

Gemini: Gemini, when you are feeling the Martian fires of Aries, your natural tendencies for mental activities are likely to burst out into a greater need for communication of some sort, typically talking. Your curiosity might become aggressive or demanding. Your ability to focus might be more fickle than usual. Here, the challenge is to remember that you are not your thoughts. Let your need to know and to share ideas align with your deeper soul awareness. You may discover truths in the world around you that help reconcile the dualities of your own identity.

Cancer: Cancer, now more than any other time of year, is a good time to practice self-love and self-nurturing. Be decisive and assertive about your emotional needs, but try not to expect others to take care of you. Remember, the divine Mother and Father are always present to love you. Your tendencies to want to nurture others may be stronger than usual this month. That’s fine as long as you are respecting their independence and not sacrificing your needs.

Leo: As a fellow fire sign, Leo, the Aries energy for you is a harmonic reminder of your entitlement to express your unique creativity. This month is a good time to feed the flames of your inspiration. Don’t wait for those in your kingdom to demand you take action. Call upon your soul to take leadership and then begin. And make sure you leave room for others to express themselves, too.

Virgo: The thing to watch out for this month, Virgo, is letting your Martian side ignite that tendency of yours to be exacting, critical and “right”.  You will do better by tolerating your ego’s desire to explore the possibilities of breaking free from your own stable routines and standards. In this way, you just might discover some interesting new dimensions to your life and, in the process, develop more tolerance for others who live outside your standards.

Libra: OK Libra, now is the time for you to attend more to yourself, instead of others, and address those imbalances that have been nagging you all year. Relationship only works well when both parties consciously assert their own needs and desires. It may feel awkward, but you really need to be decisive and speak up.  As long as you do so with respect, your show of strength will be appreciated, and if not, maybe it’s time to cut the cords.

Scorpio: Scorpio, this Aries month is a time for you to watch your ego closely and welcome the feedback of your loved one(s). If you still tend to hide your true self behind a mask of invulnerability, you are robbing yourself of the power you have to feel more alive and authentically connected to others. Take a risk in intimacy. Show your cards. You might be surprised just how wonderful it feels to be vulnerable and seen. Otherwise, this month, your ego may lash out with more intensity than usual.

Sagittarius: As a kindred fire sign, Sag, your natural tendencies for adventure and learning will be enhanced this month. Aries’ Martian influence on your Jupiter inspires an urgency and lust for freedom to explore life’s great landscape of experiences and lessons. You will need to make room for this, now or for later, but be careful to not exclude your loved ones from your visionary plans. You may be feeling all things are possible now, yet lack attention to the details. Perhaps you can appreciate and invite this from someone close to you.

Capricorn: Capricorn, though you are generally a cautious and careful planner, this may be a good time to let your inner Mars have some sway to take risks. If you have felt any promptings to take leadership at work or elsewhere, this is the time to do so. Or perhaps it’s time to cut loose and go solo. Drop down in your heart and ask for soul guidance. If the answer is “yes”, take command and go for it. Decisiveness now will allow the rest to unfold over the coming months.

Aquarius: Life for you as an Aquarian is always a balance between your need to belong to a team, a community of kindred souls and your need to show up as the unique, eccentric soul you are. The Aries influence on you this month tilts the balance toward the latter. If you’ve been questioning how well you fit with friends and groups, this is a good time to assert yourself and make changes. However, be careful you are not just feeling a need to be rebellious as an excuse to feel your ego’s strength. Those who “get” you, will be supportive. No need for combat.

Pisces: Since the theme of Pisces is the ultimate dissolution and surrendering of ego-self to soul-self, this Aries month intensifies your awareness of the contrast between the two. If you are still struggling to discern where others end and you begin, this is a good time to explore how to be stronger in your ego identity. If you are longing to be more consciously connected to your soul-self, this is a good time to pay attention to how your ego could be stronger and therefore more able to serve your soul’s higher intentions.

The sun is in Pisces. What does that mean for your sign?

Posted on
Category: Current Transits

The sun is in Pisces February 20 – March 20.

While the Sun is in the sign of Pisces, our ego subliminally longs to reunite with our soul’s connection to the divine love of all-that-is. Such mystical awareness has always been the main goal and challenge of human existence, so of course we are still easily confused by such longings. These inner intuitive promptings and sensitivities are typically misunderstood, resulting in illusions, delusions, fears, suffering and addictions. The spiritual path has always resulted in an inward turn, to discover our true source of being. We invoke devotional practices to increase the flow of our soul through our personality expression. While this attention to inner awareness increases the longing for wholeness and spiritual unity, it also challenges us to experience and discern the ways in which our ego continues to create the illusions of fracture and separation.

Look below for your birth sign (sun sign) to see what particular challenges/opportunities are being brought to your awareness this month. (These can also hold true if you have your Moon, Rising sign or a number of planets in the sign.)

Aries  (Mar 20 – Apr 20): The energy of Aries seems a direct contradiction to that of Pisces, since Aries is all about strengthening and asserting the individual human ego. Thus, the Aries experience with devotion to soul can feel somewhat disabling, prompting episodes of guilt, shame or fear of being weakened or lost. The key is to find your own way to practice, free of conformity, yet allowing you to express the compassion and acceptance that reflects your true, larger identity.

Taurus  (Apr 20 – May 20): Your need for stability and material security colors your approach to the inner, devotional life. A need for fixed values and solid outcomes can become dogmatic beliefs that block your willingness to step into the amorphous waters of inner exploration. Your easiest access is through your body and with nature. Yoga, gardening, creative craftsmanship and such can keep you grounded, yet allow your awareness to grow beyond the illusion of the physical and become comfortable with the unknown. Once you find what works for you, devotion comes naturally.

Gemini  (May 20 – Jun 20): Inner awareness requires stilling the mind. For a Gemini, this can sound like death. After all, what’s the point of sitting still and meditating if not to find out what’s in there, right? Certainly, asking questions and trying to understand is a part of your spiritual path, but at some point, you must let go of the need to feed your curiosity and process ideas and instead merely “be” with what is. If you can give your mind the understanding that it is not who you really are, you will transcend thought and allow profound intuitive “knowings” to soak in.

Cancer  (Jun 20 – Jul 20): Cancer and Pisces are both water signs, meaning their energies are very much that of emotions and feelings. For Cancer, the emphasis is on the personal emotions that demand the care and nurturing that builds emotional security for your ego. For Pisces, it’s more about the deeper feelings that emerge from your longing for the divine. The challenge is to discern the difference. If still struggling to build a strong emotional security as an individual, the influence of Pisces can be very confusing, causing you to feel other peoples’ pain as your own and directing your spiritual longings into martyrdom. The key is to hold compassion, but not rescue. Model self-nurturance.

Leo  (Jul 20 – Aug 20): Leo’s gift, when done well, is the ability to shine the light of the soul through the ego/personality in ways that cause others to feel the warmth of that divine light. To pull this off, you must allow the ego a lot of rope, which is precisely the challenge you face in the realm of inner spiritual devotion. Leos can find themselves in episodes of shame when they overextended the ego and lose soul consciousness, usually because they’ve attracted so much attention in the process. The devotional practice, Leo, is to exercise Piscean forgiveness and compassion for yourself, and use your expressive talents to model a healthy humility that encourages others to shine, too.

Virgo  (Aug 20 – Sep 20): Virgos, when motivated, can become the most devoted of spiritual mystics. Virgos like to know how it all works and then do it right. Creating new habits and routines, a powerful requirement for true spiritual growth, comes naturally to you. The trouble is that you can then get so caught up in the mechanics of devotion; you miss the spirit of it. Self-judgment and criticism of others can stand in the way of the very divine connectedness you desire to experience. Your challenge is to see that perfection is always present on a divine level. Once you get that, you become the model.

Libra  (Sep 20 – Oct 20): Libras are all about connecting to others, valuing close relationships. They can spend their lives mastering the art of serving others well and thereby balance out their own ego’s natural selfishness. This turn from self to other is a natural bend in the circle of spiritual growth we all travel. However, the ultimate completion of that circle in Pisces is about coming back to the self again, but now the higher self of the soul, which actually includes everyone else’s soul. So, Libra, the challenge for you for inner devotion is to not confuse the need for a strong human partnership with the need for a strong partnership with your own soul. Such soul awareness blesses any relationship a Libra may have.

Scorpio  (Oct 20 – Nov 20): As another water sign, Scorpio, your challenge in spiritual devotion is the fear of being exposed. With such sensitivities to the feelings of others around you, it can be a confusing mess inside. The Scorpio experience involves the unwinding of the ego and facing the monstrous illusions of darkness and horror that require a transcendent experience beyond the ego. Thus, facing your inner world, you will find many shadows and scary places, but you also tend to have strong desires to explore such realms, so it can work for you.

Sagittarius  (Nov 20 – Dec 20): The Sagittarius path of truth-seeking seems to naturally point you toward mystical fulfillment of Pisces, however, it isn’t quite that simple. Sag’s can get very stuck in the mental realms of spiritual beliefs, theologies and doctrines. This prevents them from entering the interior worlds of direct divine experience unless at some point you stop asking questions and taking dogmatic stances and instead understand that scriptures and teachings are there to point the way, not BE the way. Once learned, you can be a gifted teacher of devotional understanding.

Capricorn  (Dec 20 – Jan 20): Capricorns block to inner spiritual awareness is the need to achieve and be recognized. You are so accustomed to setting goals, making plans and then getting things done, that the nonlinear nature and non-predictable timing of spiritual growth can frustrate you. Also, you can find yourself striving to take leadership in spiritual circles when what you might truly need is to either follow or just “be”. You’ll do best when you have a disciplined and routine practice of devotions in which you can let go of all your worldly aspirations.

Aquarius  (Jan 20 – Feb 20): Aquarians are naturally drawn to environments and groups that exist outside the norms of society. This can give you a leg up on moving toward a spiritual lifestyle. However, your tendency to live in your head, not in your heart, can keep you aloof from the more heart-felt levels of connections that you need to incorporate into your wholeness. Though Aquarians might be drawn to spiritual groups easily enough, you might also feel rebellious and miss the opportunities to surrender to the group unity that reflects the wholeness of your own soul.  Finding the right group is key.

Pisces  (Feb 20 – Mar 20): One might assume that a Pisces person would be most likely to fulfill a spiritual mystic life, but there are many complications to the Pisces ego that do not necessarily align with the highest intentions of the Pisces calling. Though you are very sensitive to the feelings of those around you and to the deep longing within you for the divine, you can also feel crushed by the weight of that awareness. Addictions and escapisms can turn into years and decades of avoidance of the very feelings that are required to step into the conscious path of mystical awakening. You need to learn to stay grounded and present in your body and seek experienced help in discerning the confusing perceptions you experience inside.

December Astrology Report

Posted on
Category: Current Transits

By Barry Kerr

The Winter Solstice is on December 21.

At the winter solstice, when the Sun moves into Capricorn, astrologers look to the sky for insights into what this new year may portend. As we mark the beginning of the return of the light with longer daylight, this is the beginning of a new cycle of gestation, birth and growth, not only for nature, but also for the human spirit.

Baked into this year’s solstice chart there remains the waning, yet still powerful Uranus/Aries square to Pluto/Capricorn, an aspect that began over five years ago. Collectively, we’ve seen a struggle between the status quo of the plutocratic establishment and humanity’s need for authentic, revolutionary and systemic change that allows for individual human rights. This will persist for another four years.

Uranus went retrograde last July. As it goes direct at the end of this month, the confusion from the recent election results will begin to clear and a new wave of populist uprising will press for further changes.

Currently, Jupiter in Libra joins this dynamic by opposing Uranus and will continue to do so until next November. Jupiter’s drive for expanded understanding will at times inspire us to relate to others with hope and generosity, yet at other times our enthusiasm may spill over as impatience and provocative bluster. Jupiter’s square to Pluto indicates we will be challenged to renew our confidence and optimism in the face of continued blows to our hopes. Our strategy to sustain through these challenging times will be to bring our best to each and every relationship we have, being conscious to intend unity and oneness, even with perceived enemies we may have never met in person. Jupiter’s sextile with Saturn and trine to Venus, thankfully lend a balancing sensibility and social ease to our good intentions. In coming years, as the Uranus-Pluto aspect weakens, this personal approach to relationships will pay off, individually and collectively.

winter-solstice-2016

In this solstice chart, the Sun trines the North Node, indicating that all of us will feel drawn to step outside the comfort and safety of our home and family in order to lend our individual voice to the public forum. The Sun’s sextile to Mars will enhance our willingness to be assertive. However, with Mars conjoining Neptune in Pisces and both opposing the North Node, there is also a strong temptation to escape the awareness of the suffering around us by turning to addictions of entertainment, food, sports, etc. If we allow ourselves to remain aware of the pain around us, while applying our spiritual wisdom to self-care, we will more likely intuit the words and actions we need to stay engaged in the collective process around us in a way that does not diminish us or others. Creativity, artistic expression and spiritual maturity are needed here in ways that provide practical service to each other.

Another aspect for this yearly forecast is the Sun squaring the Moon. The Sun and Moon, among other things, represents the father and mother principles, or masculine and feminine principles. Collectively, humanity is coming to terms with the ways we have infused our societies institutions with our limited understanding of those principles and how the resulting shadow energies that have emerged.  If humanity were a “family”, this square aspect challenges us to question both “Dad” and “Mom” in how they may have contributed to or enabled abuse and neglect in our human “family”. Perhaps we are ready to resolve that polarity to a new level of consciousness and thus a new collective paradigm. There are planetary aspects on the horizon that point to great potential for breakthroughs in consciousness and better times ahead.

November 2016: Scorpio, Pluto & Current Transits

Posted on
Category: Current Transits

By Barry Kerr

The Sun moved into Scorpio on October 22.

In traditional astrology, Mars rules the signs of Aries and Scorpio. In Aries, our fiery Martian will learns to assert it self boldly, selfishly into the world, to claim its right to be here. In Scorpio, that same willfulness must adjust and respond to the same assertion from others, especially in our most intimate relationships. After the commitment we form with partners in Libra, in Scorpio, our personal will is now tested. Our ego is challenged. Between two egos that see the world from the illusion of separation and fear, vulnerability is dangerous. Intimacy can feel life threatening. Power struggles arise and in the illusion of winner-takes-all, emotional melodrama can run rampant.

The discovery of the outer planetary bodies of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto during the last three centuries has given astrology a modern understanding of planetary rulerships. Unlike the inner planets like Mercury, Venus and Mars, which represent different expressions of our human personalities and egos, these outer planets* represent our ego’s ability (or lack of) to connect directly to our soul consciousness. Uranus, as a higher octave of Mercury, is our mental and cognitive connection to soul. Neptune, as a higher octave of Venus, is our heart and feeling connection to soul. Pluto is our connection to the soul’s will to transform and evolve, and in this way, is a higher octave of Mars. Thus, in today’s astrology, it is Pluto that also rules the sign of Scorpio.

Why? Well, because it is in Scorpio, in the intimate and emotional power struggles between two egos, that we are invited to reach past the limiting perspective of our ego. We use the human love (Venus) that is there as a motivating force to call in the higher wisdom (Uranus) that comes from our soul, to deepen our love beyond our mortal fears (Neptune), and to invoke our soul intention to transform (Pluto) the way we experience self and other. From a higher, spiritual perspective, whatever has created discord and conflict can now be seen as opportunity for expansion, growth, and evolvement of consciousness. Each time we engage in such a battle of wills between egos and choose to reach for this higher calling from our soul, we learn how to align the limited power of our ego (Mars) with our soul’s more powerful and transformative possibilities (Pluto), which are in kind aligned with the greater power of divine intentions. This is the synergy and magic that happens when two or more people conspire to blend their ego energies with loving intentions.

This is why watery Pluto and Scorpio are often associated with birth and death and rebirth, with darkness and light, with change. As spirit, we choose to come into form for the very purpose of experiencing the phenomenon we call emotions and feelings. Emotions are the energy of our souls interface with physical form and therefore are key to our returning to full consciousness of spirit within physical form. Pluto in Scorpio, though like Halloween, dark, scary and death-like, is the crucible of initiations toward mastery, leading to the wisdoms and unlimited expansions encountered through Jupiter in the next sign of Sagittarius.

Current Transits

The New Moon is on October 30.

This New Moon is in Scorpio. Scorpio draws our attention to the deep, dark mysteries of life and death, the energy of change and transformation and thus, the fears that arise from such. Mercury conjoins this moon and trines Neptune, inviting advancement in our ability to understand and embrace change. Mercury represents our mental capacities for taking in information, sharing it, as well as our ability to see patterns and connections. Neptune is our ability to channel our divine soul’s love and compassion. As the world presents us with scary and dark prospects, this new moon is a good time to commit ourselves to staying mindful of the larger, divine and loving guidance we all receive that help us accept the death of the old and birth of the new and trust our ability to negotiate the coming changes.  It’s always darkest before dawn.

full-moon-nov-2016

The Full Moon is on November 14.

With Sun in Scorpio and Moon in Taurus, this full moon illuminates the polarities between our material needs and our spiritual longings, between self-reliance and interdependency, and between self-preservation and intimate vulnerability.

As the Sun in Scorpio is quincunx (150 degrees) Uranus in Aries, and the ruler of both those signs, Mars, is in Aquarius, we are challenged to bring higher awareness and authenticity to our masculine tendencies toward individualism and domination by inviting egalitarian connections to others, with a vulnerability and interdependence that can result in synergistic co-creativity.

The Uranus – Pluto square that has precipitated the unrest of social and political upheaval over these past five years is still in play through 2019. As Jupiter, in Libra, joins this square, off and on, for the next year, opposing Uranus and squaring Pluto, it indicates support and opportunities for major societal reform and progress, including advancements in freedom and equality in relationships.

Important to this unfolding is Neptune conjoining the South Node of the Moon in Pisces, which invites us to step through the shadows of victimhood, martyrdom, co-dependency, addictions, escapism and blame and instead embrace our sensitivity, compassion, creativity, intuition, and imagination and live from the paradigm or unity, rather than separation.

Libra, Venus & Current Transits for October, 2016

Written by Mimosa

By Barry Kerr

The Sun moved into Libra on September 22.

Venus rules two signs; Taurus and Libra. Last spring, in Taurus, Venus, the relationship planet, focused our attention on that of this physical world which we need to create security and comfort for our human self. The emphasis was on attracting and building property, wealth, comfort, security and pleasure. This was our earthy Venus.

Now, in Libra, Venus applies the laws of attraction to a much more complicated and airy endeavor; one-on-one relationships with people. Having awakened our emotional needs (Moon) in Cancer and our egoic expression (Sun) in Leo, and having taken in feedback (Mercury) in Virgo, it’s time to apply all we’ve learned to creating, maintaining and improving relationships, especially those that meet our needs for emotional fulfillment.

In this regard, Libra represents the first of the signs in the second half of the zodiac, and thus challenges us to become aware of the polarity of self and other. Our inner Venus is our yearning to connect to others through love and mutual creativity. Who doesn’t desire a partner, a lover, or even just a best friend? To create such relationships for ourselves, we must learn how to relax our own ego needs and tune into other people’s wants, needs and goals.

The experience of “falling in love” is just that. It’s the joy we feel when it seems that we can finally let down our Martian armor of self-protection and embrace another soul as if they are a part of our greater self.  It feels safe. It feels affirming, comforting, and pleasurable; a bit like coming home. Yet, unlike attaining and possessing a physical object we have come to value and can “own”, maintaining a positive relationship to a valued human soul requires much more of us. Here is where we begin the process of applying our human emotional learning to our growing emotional needs. To continue to grow an emotionally fulfilling bond with a loved one requires an ongoing awareness and valued attention to both our own continuous emotional experiences and to the same in our beloved other. What they feel and experience must become as important as what we feel. This is the “commitment” that most people long for in relationship. Venus in Libra invites us to that commitment.

However, once committed, we are awakened to a whole new level of relationship learning. To manifest the harmony, balance, fairness and beauty that Libra represents, we must come to understand the many lessons around our role in supporting our beloved. A primary principle in this is the polarity between self (Aries) and other (Libra). Finding the balance is key. Are we responsible for our partner’s emotions? No. Are we responsible for our own? Yes. Can we fix our partner’s hurts? No. Can we be supportive and nurturing? Yes. What does being supportive mean? When is it appropriate to defend our own interests?

This is the stuff that builds a partnership and, over time, leads us into deep and real intimacy with an other soul. Yet, it will be through our Pluto in Scorpio, the next sign, that we are inspired and challenged, in intimacy with other, to test the boundaries of our ego’s capacity to actually fully let go and surrender to a much greater relationship with our true beloved: our own soul.

Where Venus sits in your birth chart by sign and house can reveal what you value and are attracted to in relationships. It also points to the kinds of lessons you chose to experience in relationships in this lifetime. For example, a Venus in Gemini in the 5th house will attract very intellectual and highly romantic encounters. By contrast, A Venus in Aries in the 11th house will tend to remain a loner and prefer a wide circle of friends.

Current Transits

The New Moon is on September 30.

This New Moon is in Libra, conjoined with Jupiter.  Jupiter lends the energies of abundance and opportunity to your intentions toward creating greater awareness around your primary relationships during the coming month. Neptune is a key player in this. As it continues it’s year long square with Saturn, your need for balancing your practical, real world perspectives with your idealized and compassionate vision can be advanced by attention to any power issues within your primary relationships. Pluto has just ended a long retrograde and it’s square with this moon invites a discernment between the outcomes of worldly power struggle and the spiritual outcomes of ego transformation. Can you bring your attention to both? Venus, the relationship planet, trines Neptune, magnifying your soul’s guidance to do so.

full-moon-oct-2016The Full Moon is on October 15.

With the Sun still in Libra, the Moon opposes it in Aries, bringing to the surface the polarity between self and other. Uranus will join with the Moon, fueling you with many intuitive awarenesses about your emotions and your need to assert your individuality. This affords the opportunity to test whatever you have gained in your awareness about power within your relationship(s) since the New Moon.

September 2016: Virgo, Mercury & Current Transits

Posted on
Category: Current Transits

by Barry Kerr

The Sun moved into Virgo on August 22.

Last month, with Sun in Leo, we honored our ego, celebrating our soul’s intention to shine our light through our personality. This month, in Virgo, the energy is focused on feedback, discernment, improvement and service.

People often use the terms “big” ego and “strong” ego, sometimes confusing the two meanings. It’s important to understand the difference. A big ego implies that a person is filled with self-love, is able to express her thoughts and feelings in big ways that demand or invite other’s attention. This can be warm, entertaining and delightful or brash, self-serving and boorish. Think Robin Williams versus Donald Trump. By contrast to them, the proverbial quiet, introverted librarian has a “small” ego.

A strong ego, on the other hand, is about a person’s ability to withstand criticism or rejection. The capacity for one to maintain self-love, self-worth, and belief in oneself is the measure of an ego’s strength. The quiet librarian might not command people’s attention with a bright personality, but might radiate warmth and not emotionally collapse in the face of harsh feedback from friends, colleagues or failures. Think of Rosa Parks, who humbly and lovingly refused to go to the back of the bus, fueling a wave of civil rights activities.

Williams and Trump both have large, but weak egos. The librarian and Parks have smaller, but stronger ego.

In any particular incarnation, we may choose a big ego or small, whichever serves our soul’s goal for that lifetime. The strength of our ego varies less and is a reflection of the ongoing work we’ve done over many lifetimes of soul evolvement.

All this talk of egos is important to understanding the role of your Mercury as it rules the sign of Virgo. It is through the Virgo qualities of your human experience that you take in, through your Mercurial rational mind, the observations and details of how your ego actually affects other people. This sometimes comes directly through feedback and criticism from others. More often, you begin to discern unspoken and repeating patterns of rejection or acceptance, failure or success, needs and desires met or not. If you are learning from this feedback and applying lessons to future choices of how you express your ego, then you build successful connections to others, relationships that satisfy your needs and validate your self-worth. If not, relationships tend to be difficult and you feel alone.

The key here is learning to embrace the feedback from people and the world, to value the information as clues to self-fulfillment. As you focus your attention on what others have to say about how they experience you, you can begin to relax your ego’s drive for self-assertion, incorporate other people’s feelings, thoughts and desires into your own values and thereby make choices that serve those to whom you wish to relate and love.

Mercury’s role in ruling Gemini was to sharpen mental awareness for connection to environment. Now in Virgo, Mercury uses those same attributes of logic and communication to create a practical approach toward connection to other beings. Success in this endeavor improves the ability of our Venus (the relationship planet), in the next sign of Libra, to create fulfilling one-to-one relationships with friends, lovers and even business partners.

Current Transits

The New Moon (Solar Eclipse) is on September 1.

Solar eclipses mark both endings and beginnings. Where this falls in your birth chart (9 degrees Virgo) indicates where you are reaching a completion or are ready to go to a next level. Because this New Moon eclipse forms an exact alignment with the ongoing Saturn-Neptune square transit affecting us all this past year, it heightens our attention to the dynamics in play between our Neptunian dream of an ideal life and world through our imagination and intuition and our Saturnian commitment to the rules of time, space and the physical world, which seemingly limit our choices and possibilities with “reality”. This Saturn-Neptune square will hit exactly for the third time on September 10. So, get ready for some intense times that challenge us to let go of dogmatism, blame, victimhood and take responsibility for giving away our power to fallacies and addictions. To integrate our Saturn with our Neptune, we must trust our own inner voice of truth and move away from fear-based beliefs and programming derived from our youth, culture, religion, education and media.

With so many planets in Virgo during this New Moon (Mercury, Jupiter, Sun, Moon, North Node), the main theme in this is our materialistic and mechanistic view of reality. It feeds the illusion of separation that fuels our fears. How can we honor both body and soul, equally?

Full Moon Sept 2016

The Full Moon (lunar eclipse) is on September 16.

As a lunar eclipse, this Full Moon affects our self-perception through our subconscious, emotional levels, revealing motivations that are hidden. As we evolve our intention for balance of body and soul from the earlier New Moon, this Full Moon heightens our awarenss of the Pisces-Virgo duality. This calls for a healing between spirit and matter, feminine and masculine, heart and head. With Mars squaring this moon polarity, our personal will is challenged to bring greater awareness into decisions and actions.

Leo, the Sun & Current Transits for August, 2016

Posted on
Category: Current Transits

By Barry Kerr

The Sun moved into Leo on July 22.

Nearly everyone knows their Sun sign, because the Sun, in astrology, represents the core of your ego’s sense of self. Your soul shines it’s light through the prism of your Sun sign, giving specific, dominant qualities to your personality. Other planets, in other signs in your chart, give a richer and more nuanced texture to your personality, but the Sun, as it does in the solar system, provides the light and warmth of your human being.

Through the first four signs of the zodiac, the soul having established itself in human form as an ego, evolves into the sign of Leo, ruled by the Sun. It is here that the soul, as a unique and divine ray of the one light of creator, makes use of the ego to express the essence of that light into the physical realm through creative passion, playful competition, and radiant love.

Which sign and house your Sun falls in your birth chart will describe how you radiate your soul’s unique light. For example, a Sun in Gemini in 11th house can shine as an intellectual wit, orator and communicator within groups and among friends. A Sun in Scorpio in the 6th house may bring brilliance to serving others in emotionally supportive and intimate ways. Just how well these personalities express the highest potentials of their qualities depends on the level of wholeness and consciousness one has developed thus far in the soul’s journey. If one’s Taurus/2nd house experiences have left a void in the area of self-worth or material security, one’s Sun expression might be cut short, repressed, and/or distorted by needs of the shadow wound.

Typically, we all have a unique blend of shadow/wound backgrounds that hamper the fullness of our light’s expression. This becomes the stuff of what is termed our “healing work”. Among our goals as spiritual beings choosing to incarnate as humans again and again, is to develop, as humans, enough wholistic consciousness to allow our soul to flow through our human egos without distortion or blockage. It is in this way, that in the long run, we are able to shine our lights into this world, with full brilliance as the powerful stars that we are. This is what fuels our creation of heaven on earth.

It is in the next sign, Virgo that we will learn to receive feedback and develop discernment, necessary for mastery in this endeavor.

Current Transits

The New Moon is on August 2 in Leo.

New Moons are beginnings. In Leo, this New Moon invites us to embrace our majesty as a child of the one creator, to be a co-creator of this world. What is your unique expression? How do you radiate agape love and joy? By becoming the fullness of your personality’s potential, you are a hand of God, so to speak. The trick is to do it in alignment with your soul’s wisdom.

Neptune is quincuxing this New Moon, urging you to trust your heart’s feeling intuition, even in the face of the unknown. With Venus also in Leo, love will inform your creative expressions and give you courage. Mars, having just entered Sagittarius, conjoining Saturn and trining the New Moon, will lend wisdom and purpose to your actions. So, if you get an inspired idea during this New Moon, trust it deeply and commit.

Saturn has been retrograding since March 25 and now turns direct onAugust 13. Since it also remains in square with Neptune into September, it is time to take what you’ve learned about your beliefs over the past four months, perhaps involving some disillusionment, and incorporate it into this next cycle of creating your heart’s desires. Devotion and discipline are key factors.

Discernments will come as Mercury in Virgo squares this Saturn/Neptune alliance August 6-7, focusing awareness on your beliefs regarding service versus servitude. When Venus in Virgo squares that same duo on August 13-14, the invitation will be to gently relax your inner critic and follow your joy and playfulness instead of your fear.

Full Moon Aug 2016

The Full Moon is on August 18 in Aquarius.

A Full Moon casts light on the shadows of the sign polarities. Leo, in shadow, is domineering and unaware of the needs of others. The Aquarius shadow is unaware that changing the world begins with self. Again, opening your heart to your soul’s warm radiant light, through joy and gratitude, dissolves the shadows and is the doorway, for us all, to creating a more beautiful future, personally, and for the world.

July 2016: Cancer, The Moon & Current Transits

By Barry Kerr

The Sun moved into Cancer on June 20.

The Moon rules the sign of Cancer. The Moon reflects our soul’s core intention to incarnate as human: emotions. Cancer completes the first set of elements in the journey around the zodiac: Aries/fire/inspiration, Taurus/earth/physicality, Gemini/air/mental awareness and now Cancer/water/feelings. From the illusion of separation at birth, we develop our ego’s sense of self, place and relationship in our environment. Given only that, we could get lost in the illusion; thus the need for emotions. It is our emotional experiences that lead us to our heart and thus to the less logical, more intuitive understanding of who we really are, beyond our ego.

In Cancer, our Moon feels the underlying divine connections we have to other souls: parents, siblings, family, etc. These feelings create bonds of affection and sentiment, longings for connection, as well as fear and sadness around a lack of connection. To our rational Mercury mind, this is all very messy and unnecessary and can often appear as a threat to the survival of our ego. Yet, in our emotions, we learn there is a powerful synergy in certain of our relationships that somehow adds to our sense of self, rather than detract. This, we call love.

The sign and house your Moon is in will reflect the way you experience and process your emotions, the themes that most often trigger your feelings, and the way you create emotional security for yourself.  For example, a Moon in Aries/3rd house is most likely triggered in situations involving miscommunications or assertion of ideas. If emotionally upset, she will choose to be alone, to write, or read or think things through.  A Moon in Scorpio/11th house is more likely triggered by a feeling of emotional vulnerability and will recoup by staying hidden, while supporting others. Understanding these personality tendencies in our self and in those we love can go a long way toward helping us to love our self and each other more effectively.

When we care for, nurture, and protect each other, not only do we increase our capacity for physical survival, but at some deep subliminal level, we experience in our physical existence, the reality beyond the illusion of our five senses, namely, that in spirit, we are all one. Indeed, that which we experience and call love is what we are. The intensity of our familial relationships testifies to this truth.

Thus, it is in Cancer, through our Moon, that we begin the process of “remembering” our greater soul self, our heritage in a family of souls, connecting to the love around us and within us. Through this emotional “rebirth” we are better prepared for the next phase of our human journey, which in Leo, is to shine the loving and passionate light of our Sun, as a unique child of divine creation.  However, if our inner Moon is wounded, emotional insecurity and aloneness will follow us, obscuring and distorting the light of our star.

Current Transits

New Moon July 2016The New Moon is on July 4.

This New Moon features the Sun, Moon, and six other planets forming a harmonic grand trine in water signs. The invitation is to more deeply understand and integrate our feminine side. For millennia, the feminine side of human nature has been suppressed. At this critical time, if humanity is to survive, we must create balance between our feminine and masculine.

Working to that end has been the Uranus-Pluto square, hitting seven times between 2010 and 2015 and still in play through 2019. That dynamic has stirred up rebellion, power struggles and transformation across the planet. Eris, our newest dwarf planet, is the feminine match to assertive and angry Mars. Eris speaks truth to power, relentlessly demanding that the truth be acknowledged by all. Currently, Eris is conjoining Uranus, bringing her righteous attitude to our drive for authentic progress.

Early July, while Eris’s fiery brother, Mars, is steeped in water, is a good time to nurture home and family. How well am I caring for my body, heart, mind and soul? By the Capricorn Full Moon on July 19, this inward awareness will turn outward, calling us to take responsibility for the world around us in ways that support the balance of our inner and outer lives, our feminine and masculine expressions. As Mercury and Venus move into fiery Leo, and Mars aligns with Sun and Moon, Eris, then in earthy Taurus, just may make her presence felt in earnest. Neptune’s divine influence will encourage us to lead with our hearts, not our heads.

Current Transits for June 2016

Category: Current Transits

By Barry Kerr

The Sun moved into Gemini on May 20: Fleet-footed Mercury rules the sign of Gemini. After establishing our right to exist with Mars/Aries and connecting to our body and resources with Venus/Taurus, it’s now time to begin exploring our environment. Mercury represents our rational, logical thinking mind, which takes in information through our five physical senses, processes that information, and communicates the results.

Our thoughts are primarily driven by our values and needs (Venus) and determine our actions (Mars). These three functions (Mercury, Venus and Mars) are the primary components of our animal existence. (The Moon in Cancer will add the layer of emotions, birthing our humanity.)

Our brain (Mercury) typically runs the show. Through logic and reason, we’re able to organize perceptions into memories, associations, symbols, lessons, and possibilities. Through symbols, we are able to communicate our thoughts to others, thus combining our brain with theirs into a web of mental synergy that increases our capacity for collective survival. As we extend our mental awareness outward, experiencing our relationships to things and people, our mind creates a reality, a story of life, which becomes the evolving phenomenon we call our “self”, the very limited perspective defining our ego.

The sign your Sun is in will be the filter that determines the central qualities of your ego self. However, the sign your Mercury is in will determine the way your mind assists you toward that expression. For example, a person with Sun in Libra will ultimately be driven toward relationships more than most people, and if that person’s Mercury is in Virgo, her mind will be most curious about practical feedback and analysis within relationships. However with Mercury in Scorpio, that person will be most curious about the emotional undercurrents within relationships.

One of the most important processes that form our ego is that of comparisons with other(s). Contrasts and similarities define our sense of self, and because this world of time and space consists of dualities and polarities, we find ourselves exploring various ends of those spectrums, curious to discover and learn about them. This is why Gemini people can be so curious, fickle and easily distracted, yet delightfully interested in all points of view. There is an innocent and neutral mental exploration in process.

When our inner Mercury is wounded or dysfunctional, we can feel a sluggish awareness, intellectual inferiority, or communication problems, sometimes leading to overcompensating in these areas. As a healing issue, it’s about becoming more aware of the principles of duality.

Mercury plays a necessary and important role in our ability to navigate the physical world. Because it is the major engine of our ego’s construction and existence, it is also the primary inhibitor in our intended journey toward transcending our ego’s limited perspective and reclaiming our intuitive awareness, seeing our selves as divine beings, whole and immortal, and only temporarily subjected to the illusions of limitedness in this world.

In each lifetime, as our Mercury explores the plethora of dynamics within the polarities of time and space, our soul is able to absorb these experiences, add them to our accumulated soul knowledge, and apply the gained wisdom to new incarnations. Thus, we become masters, and it is in Gemini that our commitment to learn is renewed.

Current Transits: The New Moon is on June 4. Venus joins the Sun and Moon in Gemini, giving an emphasis to your values and relationships. How aware are you of the relationship between the two? Ask questions. With this moon opposing Saturn in Sagittarius and squaring Neptune in Pisces, it’s an auspicious time to bring cognitive awareness to the influence of your beliefs and spiritual aspirations on your relationships. The ongoing dance between Saturn and Neptune is challenging the practical effectiveness of our ideals.

At the same time, Mercury trines with Jupiter and Pluto, bringing mental clarity to the relationship between optimism/opportunities versus the dark tendencies of establishment powers.

Full Moon June 2016The Full Moon is on June 20. Venus will slip into Cancer, inviting the emotional rewards of your New Moon intentions. Neptune will have gone retrograde (backward) on June 13, in square with retrograde Saturn, amplifying the already established tension between idealism and practicality. The potential with this Full Moon is to stay sensitive to the emotional quality of your relationships even as you engage with political and spiritual conflict.

Venus & Current Transits for May, 2016

Posted on
Category: Current Transits

By Barry Kerr

The Sun moved into Taurus on April 19.

Taurus is ruled by planet Venus. In our journey around the zodiac, after asserting our spiritual essence into physical human form via Mars in Aries, our Venus sets about gaining a healthy connection to the physical world. This includes how we relate to our body, to physical resources like food, clothes and shelter, and to nature.  At the same time we learn to enjoy the beauty and miracle of being in physical form, to delight in our five senses of sight, sound, smell, taste and touch. Much of this learning is fundamental to surviving on the physical plane.  We strengthen our commitment to building and maintaining a self, claiming territory for our ego to grow.

Think of a seed planted in spring. Its life force is there, ready to actualize its growth into form and eventually bear fruit. Taurus is the early stage of the seed sprouting, sending roots into the earth and growing a shoot up into the world to engage with the environment around it.

The healthy result of our Taurus experience is to develop the ability to provide for our self, to gain the things (money) that we need to maintain existence and well-being. Yet that extends past the tangible needs into the other basic human needs of love and comfort. To do that, we first have to establish a sense of self-worth. Without the necessary feeling of intrinsic worth, we may not even make the effort to attain our needs, much less our comforts.

Venus is the part of us that wants and needs to relate, both to things and to people. When our Venus is doing well, we are willing to give ourselves the pleasures of life. That includes delicious food, comfortable and attractive surroundings, and a sense of abundance. We feel comfortable in our body. Through this process, our Venus forms our values: what do we like and not like? This applies to people, too, in a practical way, however it is in the sign of Libra that Venus explores the emotional dimensions of relationship.

When our Venus is wounded or undeveloped, we experience a lack of self-worth, lack of abundance, lack of values, and/or an unbalanced desire for money and possessions. We might feel overly dependent on others or extremely self-contained, needing no one.  We might feel unattractive or that our body does not support us.

Current Transits

The New Moon is on May 6

New Moon May 2016 copy (1)

With the Moon, Sun, Venus and Mercury all in the earthy sign of Taurus, the focus is on paying attention to both the practical needs of your survival and to what delights your senses and gives you pleasure.  This new moon is a good time to set intentions on listening better to your body. What can your body “tell” you about how aligned your intentions and actions are with your values? As a spiritual being, what is the proper balance with materiality?

The above planets are in a pragmatic trine with Jupiter and Pluto.  Jupiter in Virgo supports your ability to discern your spiritual truths while Pluto in Capricorn empowers you to align those truths with practical action.

Jupiter also forms a T-square with Saturn and Neptune during most of May. Saturn in Sagittarius is challenging you to question your beliefs and take responsibility to move beyond what remains of any old religious and cultural programming that promotes the separateness of matter and spirit, body and soul.

The Sagittarius Full Moon on May 21 will shine a light on where your reasoning mind is out of alignment with your beliefs. The Sun in Gemini emphasizes information and data, while the Moon in opposing Sagittarius reflects your interpretation of that information, which is often an emotional “spin”. With Mars hugging the Moon closely, be careful not to be overconfident in your convictions. Take time to consider all perspectives.

There are currently five planets (half) in retrograde, with Saturn and Pluto continuing into summer. By summer’s end, they will be joined by Uranus and Neptune. One accumulative affect of these seemingly backward moving planets is to create very unpredictable events. The current election cycle is a prime example of that. We can expect to see many more surprises and “reversals” in the election and in world events. On a more personal level, the challenge is to keep an open mind and heart as to what is possible in this quickening of the collective human consciousness. Stay grounded in your body. This is a key to discerning your inner intuitive messages that will help you negotiate the coming changes.

Current Transits for April, 2016

By Barry Kerr

Special Note: Barry will be at the Well Life Expo April 2-3, offering a presentation on soul-based astrology and mini-readings.

The Sun moved into Aries on March 19.

Aries is ruled by planet Mars. At the “beginning” of the circular zodiac, Aries represents the fiery insertion of the spirit into the physical world of time and space. When each of us is conceived, a spark of our soul light ignites our human embryonic form and sets in motion a trajectory of our soul’s power to cause change in this world. It begins with the multitude of tiny changes that form our body and continues after birth to develop our personality and empower the physical actions we assert with our tiny bodies. This spark of spirit is what Mars represents in us.

Mars is the assertion of our individual power and thus relates to decisiveness, aggression, protection, desire and action. This is the stuff in us that causes change to happen in alignment with our unique soul expression. If our Mars is not fully alive and willing to express, then it is more likely that we will experience our life passively, as if it’s all happening “to” us, instead of “by” us.

It’s no wonder that in ancient times, Mars was the god worshiped by those who longed for more power in the world. Whether it was war, athletics or sexual prowess, Mars/Ares was the go-to archetype to inspire self-confidence and determination.

Yet, our inner Mars does not act in a vacuum. There are many other parts to our human and soul expressions, and for each of us, the dynamics between those inner aspects are different and unique. This is what an astrological birth chart can show us.

A study of different birth charts shows that for some people, their Mars is accentuated and acts in harmony and ease with most of their other inner parts, as represented by the other planets. Thus, for those people, the energy and vitality of their life force is easily expressed through their bodies. They are decisive and take action and risks, in what others might sometimes judge as an uninhibited selfishness.

For others, their Mars is in conflict with many of their other inner parts. Thus, they have a hard time asserting their will or even feeling the energy to do so. Or if they do make a decision and take action, it seems to create problems or take extra effort or awareness.

These differences that show up in each of our charts, and therefore in our experiences, is not without meaning and purpose. Each of our incarnations is a journey through the physical world of dualities which the zodiac represents. Each lifetime presents us challenges, lessons and blessings as a unique strategy for our soul’s evolvement. Whether amplified with synergy, repressed with complicated conditions, or something in between, how Mars shows up in our chart is determined by our soul (karma), before birth, and is inevitably a wise and loving support to fulfilling our soul’s purpose for this lifetime.

Current Transits

The New Moon is on April 7

The Sun and Moon align in Aries, inviting our intentions to be decisive and take action. Uranus joins in, too, encouraging us to trust our intuitions, see beyond what the world tells us is possible, and reach boldly for what we desire. This trillium is in trine with Saturn and Mars in Sagittarius, which lends a sensible and confident energy to be organized, practical and persistent, in alignment with a meaningful, spiritual view.

This New Moon is square to Pluto, so the Aries energy of individual empowerment and freedom will tend to rub against the establishment powers that be, inviting the transformative process of destruction and re-birth.

Mars will be in trine with Venus for a few weeks. This will give light-hearted ease to our relationships, with a balance between loyalty and independence.

A more challenging aspect during the entire month is Mars’ square to Jupiter oppose Neptune. With Mars, Jupiter invites an abundance of opportunity and energy, but a caution to not overdo. Neptune inspires a deep longing to take actions that will bring more love and beauty to our world, but can also confuse our intentions from our ego’s limited perspective. And with Jupiter opposing Neptune, there is a strong challenge to hold our optimism within a framework of divine possibility without attachment to outcomes.

The Full Moon in Scorpio on April 22 will reflect the fruition of the New Moon intentions, giving us a better understanding of how much our decisions and actions have affected the tangible world before us and/or have been energetic investments into the more invisible matrix of background evolvement toward our intuitive visions.

Current Transits for March, 2016

Posted on
Category: Current Transits

By Barry Kerr

The sun moves into Pisces on February 19.

Pisces is ruled by planet Neptune. Pisces is the “end” of the zodiac progression of signs, and marks the culmination of the involvement of human awareness back to spiritual wholeness. Neptune is that part in each of us that is able to experience our oneness with all that is. When we are able to feel connection and compassion for others, for humanity as a whole, even for other species, and for ourselves, we draw from our “spiritual heart” which Neptune represents. The energy of Pisces entices us to live from that greater heart as a way of life.

This hasn’t been easy for humans to do. In the illusion of separateness that this physical world presents to our limited five senses, we have tended to live in fear of others, afraid that death is the end of all we hold dear. Religions have given us hope for more and at times have been instrumental in “awakening” some individuals to actually experience more. However, in the end, religion can only be a set of beliefs and practices that at best point the way (more of a Sagittarius/Jupiter affect) and at worst, detract from and block the way.

Though unseen by humans until modern times, Neptune has always been at play in our inner worlds. For lack of experience in how to activate our inner Neptune in a healthy way, we humans have made distorted attempts. Drugs, alcohol, cults, martyrdom, mental illnesses and other means have been used for ages to imitate the expanded heart feelings we have when in our genuine mystical connection to others. On the other hand, substance-abuse and other means of escapism have been used to shut down the pain we have felt when our greater hearts have actually begun to connect compassionately to the collective pain body of humanity while still unable to develop and sustain the vital force of light and love available to us through true alignment with our soul. It’s the artists and mystics of the world who have historically found higher ground in this journey.

It was when the planet Neptune was first discovered by scientists in 1849 that humans first began in large numbers to claim freedom from religious authority and declare the rights of individuals to discover their own path toward “God”, toward spiritual enlightenment. What were before only secrets and occult schools of mystical wisdom, now became popular movements in our societies, allowing thousands, for the first time in history to be able to say, “I am spiritual, but not religious”, without being killed or banished by society.

Now, in current times, there is a mass spiritual awakening across the globe as humankind confronts the crises of collective survival that naturally evolved from living in the illusion of separateness. It is Pisces the calls to our inner Neptunes to feel past the fears, remember we are all eternal love spirit, and live our lives with bold and loving affirmation for creating the beautiful world our hearts know is possible.

Current transits

The new moon on March 8 brings together five heavenly bodies in Pisces, including Neptune itself, mercury ( mind ), and Chiron ( healing ). This is an auspicious time for you and humanity to take a bold leap of faith by committing to infuse spiritual awareness and fearless compassion into grounded plans for the future. This is in large part due to Saturns (pragmatic realism) square with Neptune for the course of this year. Don’t let others dissuade you from using your intuition, imagination and dreams as guides to your truth about what is possible. Uranus (intuition) continues to trine with Saturn. You are in good company and you are needed. Just watch that you are not looking for escape or fantasy.

Look on your own birth chart into which house this new moon falls. This, along with any natal planets and aspects there, will give you clues as to which part of your life you are most able to make a solid contribution by expressing your heart with more spiritual awareness.

On March 23, just after the spring equinox, the full moon will have the Sun in Aries, along with Mercury. That will be the time to turn your commitment into clearheaded actions. Mars (personal power) is approaching Saturn, boosting the energy of pragmatic actions. When Mars goes retrograde in April and May, there will be pause for recalibrating actions, before Mars hits Saturn exact in August.

Current Transits for February, 2016

Category: Current Transits

By Barry Kerr

The Sun moved into Aquarius on January 20.
Aquarius is ruled by Uranus and resonates with freedom, authenticity, intuition and seeing past the limits of the status quo. Our inner Saturn agreed to conform to the seeming limits of the world, but our inner Uranus, orbiting just beyond Saturn, intuitively knows what our five senses cannot perceive, and prompts us, like Aquarian Star Trek, “to go where no man has gone before”.

Planet Uranus wasn’t discovered until 1781, though it has always played a subversive role in the unfolding of human culture and evolution. Discovered during the American and French revolutions, it inspired change for democracy and freedom around the planet. This radical, collective expression of freedom was necessary to allow the individuation we needed to eventually grow out of religion and into spirituality.

On a personal level, Uranus urges you to not get trapped in the illusions and limited thinking of the physical world. It’s a guide from your larger soul, maintaining a helpful, though sometimes disruptive influence on ego. Conscious of it or not, it gives you the information you need to stay true to your soul’s lifetime intention. As Uranus comes into play through the cycles of your life, you feel an increased tension around what is out of integrity. On your birth chart, the signs, houses and planets touched by Uranus will reveal the themes and issues emphasized during those times.

Particularly, at age 38-42, Uranus reaches the halfway point of its 84 year orbit and sits exactly opposite its natal position. This profound life passage relates to what has traditionally been called the “midlife crisis”. Whatever choices you’ve made by way of lifestyle, commitments, and values are tested against your feelings of authenticity. What falls short becomes less tolerable. You long for change. Depending on how true you have been to your soul’s path, this can be a radical and disruptive revolution in your life, or an acceleration and liberating deepening of your life path. Changes will happen, voluntarily or not. It’s a natural part of our growth cycle. Resistance creates suffering.

On the collective societal, we are in a similar “crisis” of vision and authenticity regarding our organized systems and institutions. During Aquarius, awareness of this dissonance is demanding our attention more than ever. And just as on the individual level, once we see past the limits of the status quo, there is no going back, even if the necessary changes bring us some chaos, challenges and pain.

Current Transits

As Venus conjoins Pluto (exact Feb 6) in Capricorn, trine Jupiter and sextile Chiron, you may notice your need intensifies for deep, intimate, healing connection with an “other”. Watch for possessiveness and jealously and use these emotions to guide you to the vulnerable intimacy you seek. At another level, you may notice your intolerance for social injustice, indifference of public officials, and choose to commit to making a difference.

The New Moon in Aquarius on Feb 8 is a perfect time to make such a commitment to social change. As Uranus continues to harmonize in trine with Saturn for a few months, there is support to balance progressive vision with pragmatic action, and this new moon sits sweetly, right between the two. On a personal level, it’s an excellent time to commit to taking steps toward aspirations that up to now have seemed beyond possible. At the Full Moon on February 22, Neptune will be conjoining the Sun in Pisces to heighten your idealism, while the Moon, opposite in Virgo, will apply some pragmatic counterforce and perhaps some necessary self-criticism to adjust your strategies and expectations. Collectively, this could be a time for Americans to take a breath after the early primary results and reassess perspectives.

Saturn and Neptune will continue to square throughout 2016, challenging your ability to stay out of fear about what you cannot control, instead choosing faith in your heart to bring the strength of your soul into meaningful action. It’s important to discern which friends, which music, which input (which candidates) nurture your faith in humanity and which influence you to slide into escapism and depression.

The Sun moves into Capricorn on December 21.

Saturn is the planet that rules Capricorn and channels the energy of Cap through us. Saturn represents that part of each of us that agreed, as spirit, to come into physical form as a human. Why? To learn all about how the physical realm works so as to bring our light into this dense plane of existence more effectively, becoming conscious of our roles as co-creators of this world. Ultimately, in full consciousness, it is about more beauty, love, joy and fun within a physical form!

But getting there involves many lessons. Thus, Saturn becomes the enforcer of rules, limits, consequences, discipline, and often, pain. Jupiter, our inner magical child of infinite and unlimited spirit doesn’t like this, at least at first.

With time, however, Jupiter learns to appreciate Saturn. Like a loving father who has had to let us learn “the hard way”, Saturn is always right there to lend a helping hand and teach us as soon as we take accountability for our choices and actions, learn our lesson, and try anew. And optimistic Jupiter always wants to try anew.

Saturn takes about 29 years to circle the zodiac. Each seven years or so, as it either squares or opposes it’s original position in your birth chart, you experience a time for making choices, letting go of attachments and taking responsibility. Each of these passages helps define you. Inner promptings and outward events challenge you to let go of past errors of habit and make choices and commitments. Your level of consciousness and self-awareness determines the story you tell yourself, which determines your will to resist or embrace what is needed, which determines your emotional experience.

The big one comes at age 28-30, when Saturn returns to the place it was at when we were born. This 1st Saturn Return is one of the most important and fateful astrological transits in our life. It’s like a reality check on your life. What’s working? What isn’t? In what ways have you been in denial? In what ways have you been distracted from your true path?

Many people experience the painful ripping-away of relationships, jobs and other attachments. Some refuse to let go and suffer pain for years or decades, missing their authentic path of healing and growth. If they cannot take responsibility by their 2nd Saturn Return in their late 50’s, life will feel even more difficult. Their karma becomes harder to resolve. These are the ones who just never seem to grow into self-responsibility.

For others, those who have been conscious enough to make authentic choices and/or corrections ahead of time, the 1st Saturn Return may still impose removals, discipline, limits and more responsibility, but it’s not as painful. They can appreciate that Saturn is providing support by focusing their attention, giving their life definition, and pointing them toward the goals they came to achieve in this lifetime.

To achieve anything in this physical world, to manifest an intention, requires committing to a choice and conforming to the principles of time and space. Sure, it’s not the same in spirit world, but here on/in earth, we’ve agreed to play by these rules. Doing so is rewarded with a sense of fulfillment and peace.

So, as the Sun moves through Capricorn this month, your inner Saturn is calling you to stay more conscious that you are a soul having a human experience, and you are here to bring your infinite source of light and love into manifesting the world you are co-creating for your self and together, collectively, with humanity.

Current Transits

Giving a sharper focus to the Capricorn intention are three major transits. First, the Uranus –Pluto square (individualism, freedom and progress vs. entrenched powers that be) that began in 2007 will continue to provide a greater context to all other transits through 2020. Pluto ultimately intends evolving transformation.

Second, Saturn will trine Uranus through this month and then on and off through 2016. This harmonic angle to Uranus creates an ability to channel the intuitive and liberating force of individuality and change through Saturn’s disciplined and responsible service to stability and structure. This month and this year should be marked by many flashes of revolutionary inspirations making way into what have heretofore been old, tired and obstinate institutions and systems. It’s a time for innovative ideas to get traction in the real world. This applies to your personal life as much as to the world at large. How authentic is your life?

At the same time, Saturn continues to square Neptune all year (see last months column for details). Expect challenges to old beliefs (maybe yours) and further disillusionment with authorities and structures as the collective synergy of conscious souls brings compassion and spiritual awareness to a new world order. At the same time, Saturn may check ungrounded ideals and dreams. Not everyone has awakened…yet.

Uranus, retrograde for most of 2015, goes direct on this Christmas Day Full Moon. “Expect the unexpected” is part of the Uranus force that has ripened and is ready to be unleashed. Then, when the New Moon on January 9 conjoins with volcanic Pluto, we’re on our way! One way or another, 2016 will be a precipitous year, leading to substantial, practical changes to world order in the years to come.

Current Transits for December, 2015

By Barry Kerr

The Sun moves into Sagittarius on November 22. Jupiter rules the sign of Sagittarius and reflects the part of us that seeks truth and meaning in our existence. That is because Jupiter is our inner spiritual child that remembers, down in our gut, that we are really spirit, a soul, not limited by this world of seeming limits. Jupiter seeks how to return to wholeness of spirit. Jupiter asks the big questions. Why? How?

In Scorpio, we are confronted with the intensity of self-reflection, our heart ripped open, exposing our ego for what it is, an illusion of our mind. In emotional chaos, we invoke spirit, searching for answers, and begin to sense our soul’s presence. Now, our Jupiter is thrilled to discover an entirely adventure, a whole new paradigm of truths to explore.

This is the energy of Sagittarius: adventure, travel, and exploration, both outwardly and inwardly. By exploring the larger patterns of human endeavors, the cosmic connections of concepts and ideas, and the intuitive downloads of inspired understandings, we expand our awareness of what lies outside the five bodily senses that feed our human mind. In Sag, we learn to rely less on our logical faculties and more on our soul intuition. This larger perspective is what is needed to increase the potential for the next part of the cycle, Capricorn, where we will apply this larger perspective to being manifestors.

Saturn is squaring Neptune – Now into 2017. This is an important, long-term transit affecting all of us, individually and collectively. Understanding it will give you insight into the international conflicts and politics over the next year and your personal response to them.

Saturn represents the part of us that agreed to come into the physical world as a human. When it acts in our lives, it is seeking to conform to the rules of time and space, the polarities of the physical world. This brings up issues of limits, rules, structure, discipline, definition, choices, commitments, consequences, responsibility, and accountability. Saturn provides a “reality check” on our lives. Ideals are fine, but this physical world forces us to ground those into its rules if we want to manifest them. That can feel dauntingly scary.

Neptune, on the other hand, is the part of us that actually does imagine a more ideal world. That’s because it is a part of us, beyond our ego/personality, that still connects us to the world of pure spirit. If unconscious, it can play out as fantasy and escapism or through addictions to pain numbing substances.  When conscious, Neptune awakens our ability to feel our soul and the existing divine perfection. Neptune is currently in Pisces, it’s home, prompting our inner mystics to wake up and amplify.

So now, as these inner parts of us dance a tango, they may sound very different, with conflicting aims, but there is an innate attraction that can lead to a fertile relationship, yet not without some periods of delusion, confusion and disillusionment.

When Saturn came into Sagittarius in Dec of 2014, it brought its “get real” focus on the themes of religion, spirituality and deep science, affecting our deeply held beliefs and meanings.  For more than two years, we are all being challenged to question whether our beliefs are authentic. Do they truly serve us? Can we let go of some and bring new structure to others?

This is profoundly connected to the Saturn-Neptune square, as life events expose the degree to which we are still in escapism and addictions to cover up our responsibility to take charge of what we are creating in this world.

Does the reality that Saturn imposes scare us into closing down our intuitive sense of what is possible? Or does our conscious, mystical experience of divine perfection boost our ability to stay present to what is and to apply our wisdom, skill and talent to creating the more beautiful world we know is possible?

This is a dynamic that will play out for our planet over the next year. If you watch the political and social scene, it’s pretty easy to see. How is it affecting you?

The Dalai Lama channeled this transit when he said about the recent ISIS attacks on Paris, “We cannot solve this problem only through prayers…I am a Buddhist and I believe in praying. But humans have created this problem, and now we are asking God to solve it. It is illogical. God would say, solve it yourself because you created it in the first place.”
