Root Chakra Aromatherapy Recipe

January 2017 Root Chakra Reading
By Christina Wilke-Burbach PhD, RMT, CA
Mind, Soul, and Self LLC

New Year, new you, new plans, new resolutions! As someone who specializes in the Chakras, I believe they are the perfect blueprint for human growth and development.  The Chakras are the foundation of my entire business. I offer Chakra Wellness Retreats, Chakra Boot Camps, Chakra Intuitive Readings, Chakra Balancing, Chakra Aromatherapy, Chakra Products, Chakra Classes, Chakra Certification, and now Chakra Forecasts! Starting in 2017, I will write up one chakra a month, give an aromatherapy recipe to help bring balance to that Chakra, and give a forecast about what the Chakra energies hold for that month. Don’t worry, there are more than 7 chakras and enough information for the entire year! If you want to dive deeper into the Chakra themes of each month, I have a new Chakra Mini Series of 60-minute monthly chakra classes that includes a 30-minute chakra hypnosis session. I am also available for individual Chakra Intuitive Readings. So in January 2017, we will begin with our foundation, the Root Chakra.

Brief Overview of Chakras: The Chakras are the main energy centers in our subtle body. They are the openings for life energy to flow into and out of our aura or electromagnetic field. There are 8 main Chakras, minor, subpersonal, and transpersonal chakras. The Chakras’ function is to vitalize the physical body and to bring about the development of our self-consciousness. Each chakra is associated with certain physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual interactions. Each chakra has personal growth themes, functions, and purposes. The concept of the Chakras has been around for thousands of years.

The Root Chakra: The Root Chakra is the most physical and instinctual of all the chakras. It is located at the base of the spine/tailbone/genital area. Its themes include grounding, survival and basic needs, home, work, car, finances, career, food, nutrition, shelter, physical health, manifestation, trust, survival, security, and the right to be here. It is your foundation. It represents the element earth. This chakra brings health, prosperity, abundance, success, security, and dynamic presence. Lessons: right to be here, right to have, security, survival.

January 2017 Root Chakra Forecast: I have found through my work that many people, especially those on the spiritual path, struggle with the right to have, success, abundance and manifestation (functions of the Root Chakra). Why is this? Why do you believe you are not worthy? What is holding you back? Since the new year is traditionally a time to lay the groundwork for the upcoming year and make goals, collectively in our group consciousness, the energy is strong right now for manifestation work. If you have an idea, project, or a personal goal, focus your energy and awareness. Now is the time for you to set a solid plan of action to make this become a reality. Focus on what you desire, not what you fear.

Root Chakra Aromatherapy Recipe

  • 1 drop Patchouli
  • 2 drops Cedarwood
  • 1 drop Vetiver

Put drops on a cotton pad or tissue. Breathe in and state the following affirmation: “I am abundant and successful and deserve good things in my life.” Repeat as needed.

Frankincense

By Christina Wilke-Burbach PhD, RMT, CA

December is filled with celebrations of religion and spirituality. In nature, it is a sacred time as wildlife slumbers, sleeps, and hibernates; preparing for rebirth in the spring. The Winter Solstice is this month and symbolizes the return of light. Winter is traditionally a time of self-reflection and deep inner work. This is the most magical time of the year. So of course, Frankincense, one of the most revered sacred and spiritual oils is our intuitive essential oil for this month. Frankincense (Bosweilla ssp.) is a resin formed when an incision is made into the tree. The tree oozes a liquid gum that is hardened and then distilled into an essential oil. Frankincense originates from Somalia, Ethiopia, India, and Arabia. Like many essential oils that originate from resins, Frankincense is helpful for respiratory and skin concerns (bronchitis, congestion, scars, wrinkle, dry skin). Frankincense is also sedating, relaxing, and is great for anxiety, stress, sleeping problems, and nervousness. It can help quiet the mind and assist in meditation and contemplation. It can assist in communicating and connecting with the divine and higher realms. Frankincense resonates with the Crown Chakra and helps heals related spiritual and existential concerns. It can raise your vibration and cleanse negative, low vibrating energy from your aura. Overall it is a fantastic oil for holistic healing with many mind/body/spirit uses. A great oil for every healing toolbox.

My Frankincense Forecast for December 2016: At the Winter Solstice, we call out with our innermost being for the return of the light and we honor its impending return. This Solstice I know we all are feeling a great need for the light to come back, not just with the sun returning this year, but also for humanity in general. 2016 has perhaps been the toughest year in recent times for many on a collective level. The Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year, is honored by many traditions as a sacred and rich time. The longest night is a fruitful time for setting intentions, to be birthed with the newborn Sun. What you dream of and set intent for now can grow with the Sun, and gain momentum in Spring. The dark before the dawn, just like new Moons, can be a powerful moment of magic, drawing in what you’d like to see happen in the New Year. Take some time in contemplation and meditation to clearly visualize what you want. Then release it to the universe to be manifested. And remember, it is always darkest before the light returns. Have hope and faith. Things will get better.

Holy Winter Solstice/Yule Aromatherapy Recipe

  •         3 drops Frankincense
  •         3 drops Myrrh
  •         3 drops Palo Santo
  •         5 drops Sandalwood
  •         6 drops Cedarwood

Add to 2 ounces of water to make a mist/spray. Feel free to add any water safe gemstones or crystals to the bottle if they call out to you. This will then be a Gemstone Aromatherapy Blend. Great for clearing energy and setting sacred space for meditations, ritual, and celebrations.

Blessings for a wonderful holiday season and new year. Love and Light~

November Aromatherapy Recipe: Cinnamon

Written by Mimosa
Comments: Leave a Comment

By Christina Wilke-Burbach PhD, RMT, CA

As the calendar changes to November, Mother Nature becomes quiet, sleeps, and rests for the next several months. The wheel of light becomes dark. This is a time of inner work and self-reflection. This is a time to celebrate death and prepare for rebirth. We also officially begin the holiday season. There are dozens of holidays celebrated globally from November 1 to January 1, including Dia De Los Muertos, All Souls Day, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Yule, Christmas, and Kwanzaa.  Spicy aromas like ginger, nutmeg, and clove are strongly associated with autumn and the holidays. The intuitive essential oil for the month of November is the spiciest of them all, Cinnamon (Cinnamomum spp.). There are several species of Cinnamomum distilled to make essential oils including Cinnamomum verum, Cinnamomum zeylanicum, Cinnamom ceylanicum, andCinnamomum cassia (known as Cassia).  The leaves and bark can both be used. Cinnamon is a very hot oil and it is generally not recommended that you use this oil topically (especially Cinnamon Bark) as it is very irritating to the skin. Cinnamon is great in the diffuser, especially when people are more prone to getting sick in the fall and winter. Cinnamon is a powerful immune booster, antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antiviral agent.  But, my favorite way to use cinnamon is as a psychic protector. Cinnamon is one of the best tools for your energy toolbox. Traditionally witches’ brooms were made of cinnamon and the brooms were symbolically used to sweep the hearth and remove any negative energies from the space. Cinnamon is a suburb energy shield and energy protector. Even though cinnamon essential oil is delightful, I often prefer to use the actual herb.  I have put cinnamon sticks in the corners of rooms to raise the vibration, made cinnamon wands to cleanse space, and made charm bags for protection with cinnamon sticks, star anise, fennel seeds, and rosemary leaves. The more aware you become of energy, the more you understand how important energy protection and cleansing are to your daily routine.

My Cinnamon Forecast for November: Though many look forward to the holiday season, it is important to remember that others do not. Not everyone has family or a lot of loved ones and not everyone gets along with their family. This is a stressful time for some as an emphasis is put on buying gifts and overexerting yourself financially. Cinnamon reminds you to create and enforce strong boundaries, both physical, emotional, and energetic, with yourself and others during this season. It’s ok to say no to others. It’s ok to limit your time with some people because they drain you dry. You don’t have to empty your bank account and buy expensive gifts to show others you love them. Please be extra loving and compassionate to yourself during this time. And if you feel drawn to it, light a candle with the intent to send love and positive intent to those who may need a little extra blessing this season.

Recipe for Psychic Protection

  •         3 drops Cinnamon
  •         2 drops Anise
  •         2 drops Fennel
  •         3 drops Sage
  •         4 drops Frankincense
  •         6 drops Lavender

Mix the above oils in a 2-ounce spray bottle, add one tablespoon or vodka or witch hazel (to help mix the water/oil and disperse the spray) and then fill the remainder of the bottle with purified water. Use the spray to cleanse energy and protect your space and aura.  Be careful not to spray the eyes, skin, or breathe in the mist.

October Aromatherapy Recipe: Elemi

by Christina Wilke-Burbach PhD, RMT, CA

As we move into October, when the sun is transiting through the constellation Libra (represented by scales), we start to see a shift into more balance. It’s been a turbulent year for many people but the winds are changing and it is starting to slowly calm down. So it’s appropriate that the intuitive essential oil for the month of October is Elemi (Canarium luzonicum). Elemi essential oil is distilled from the resin of this tropical tree. The aroma is unique and pleasant; a combination of citrus, dill, balsam, and grass. Like many resins (Frankincense, Myrrh), Elemi is useful for respiratory conditions, skin care, and releasing deep emotional pain. Energetically, Elemi balances all the chakras and our entire energy system, including the chakras above our physical body (Transpersonal) and below our physical body (Subpersonal). Elemi means “as above, so below” in Arabic. It has a unique yin/yang quality, helping to bring wholeness, integration, and completion. When we experience trauma and stress, our energy system gets off balance. Elemi can be extremely useful to restore harmony, peace, and uplift the spirit.

My Elemi Forecast for October: We are starting to see a shift in our lives to a more quiet, peaceful calm. The universe is slowly restoring balance in many areas of our lives, particularly in regards to job/career and interpersonal/relationships. This is a good time of the year to evaluate what you are ready to release, purge, and set free. I highly recommend that you do some sort of cleansing ritual, such as a fire ceremony, to release the hurts of the past and energy that doesn’t serve you a higher purpose/greater good anymore. This will help bring you into balance as you release the old to invite in the new.

Recipe for Balance

  • 5 drops Elemi
  • 3 drops Geranium
  • 7 drops Bergamot

Use in a diffuser, make an aroma inhaler, blend in one ounce of a vegetable oil and use for anointing your chakras, or add to one ounce of water to make a mist or spray.

Aromatherapy Recipe for September 2016: Cypress

By Christina Wilke-Burbach PhD, RMT, CA
> Click here to check out Christina’s new online Aromatherapy class.<

Now is a time of great transition. September 1st unofficially marked the end of summer as children in this area went back to school. The Autumn Equinox is this month and the leaves will start changing color and fall. It is also currently Mercury Retrograde, and September 1st was the new moon and a partial solar eclipse. All these astrological events symbolize new beginnings and movement towards a greater clarity in your life. This has personally been a very rough summer for me and my family with unexpected deaths and big changes. I am looking forward to the changing of the season with hope and positivity. I think we all could use some sunshine and blessings right now. So it is very fitting that the intuitive essential oil for the month of September is Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens). To me, Cypress overwhelming symbolizes transition. As a tree, Cypress also symbolizes strength, especially in healing deep, painful inner wounds. It reminds you that you are stronger than you think you are. Do not doubt yourself. This oil is here for you to comfort and support you in times of change, whatever your change may be; death, loss of a relationship, new job, new home. Cypress whispers to us, “this too, will pass.” Emotionally, Cypress is calming and assists in grief and loss. Physically, Cypress is beneficial for circulation, cellulite, for balancing skin, helps regulate menstruation, and for asthma and coughs. Spiritually and energetically, Cypress reminds me of the Footprints in the Sand poem:

“One night I had a dream… I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord, and Across the sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; One belonged to me, and the other to the Lord. When the last scene of my life flashed before us, I looked back at the footprints in the sand. I noticed that many times along the path of my life, there was only one set of footprints. I also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in my life This really bothered me, and I questioned the Lord about it. “Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you would walk with me all the way; But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don’t understand why in times when I needed you the most, you should leave me. The Lord replied, “My precious, precious child. I love you, and I would never, never leave you during your times of trial and suffering. When you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.”

Let Cypress carry you in your darkest and lowest times. It will not leave you in your time of need.

My Cypress Forecast for September 2016: Are you a mental time traveler? Do you travel to the past in your memories and thoughts and ruminate over things that happened and wonder what you would have and could have done differently? Do you torment yourself by playing things out in your mind over and over again? Are you full of grief, guilt, and despair? The past is passed. Sometimes we need to let it be otherwise it will kill us emotionally and drain us dry. Everything is a life lesson if we choose to learn from it. Everything happens for a reason. Thank the universe for the lessons. Thank loved ones now gone for sharing their life with you and that you will see them again one day. Try to move forward with strength and hope. If you find yourself visiting the past in sadness, you can bring yourself back into the here and now, back into your body with your breath. Breathe in deep, and count your breath in and out. Be here, be still, be present, be in the now. “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” ~Dr. Seuss

A blend for grief and loss

  • 7 drops Cypress
  • 5 drops Myrrh
  • 4 drops Rosewood (or Ho wood)
  • 2 drops Rose

For use in a diffuser. You can also dilute in one ounce of a carrier oil (like coconut oil or jojoba) and apply topically to your heart chakra area. Repeat the following affirmation as you breathe in the aroma: “Heal my heart, heal my soul, bring me peace.” Namaste.

Aroma Reading for August 2016: Galbanum

Written by Mimosa
Comments: Leave a Comment

By Christina Wilke-Burbach PhD, RMT, CA

The intuitive essential oil for the month of August is Galbanum (Ferula galbaniflua). Galbanum has a unique fresh, earthy, green smell that definitely reminds me of summertime. It is an herb in the parsley and carrot family that has a long history of use as an incense and sacred plant since ancient times. It is believed the Egyptians used the resin for embalming.  To obtain the essential oil, incisions are made in the stalk of the plant and a gum seeps out. The gum is hardened and forms a resin which is then steam distilled. Like other resins, Galbanum has skin healing, anti-inflammatory, and respiratory healing properties. I find it particularly useful for emotional, spiritual, and energetic healing. It can be used to assist in meditation, purification, grounding, and centering. Inhale the oil and pair it with affirmations and personal growth work to heal deep emotional wounds.  I focus on using it in integration. Integration is pulling all your energies together; your heart, emotions, soul, energy, physical body, etc and uniting all parts of you, making you whole and complete…all the pieces of the puzzle are put back together again. Great for when you feel scattered and pulled apart. I like to anoint the feet at the end of an energy healing session to integrate my clients and combine it with grounding and centering techniques.

My Galbanum forecast for August 2016: Are you having troubles with concentrating? Do you feel confused and pulled in a million different directions right now? Are you having troubles making a decision? Are you at a crossroads in your life? Do you feel scattered? Galbanum is encouraging you to slow down, take a deep breath, and quiet the mind. Do not try so hard. Relax. Go with the flow. Do not try to control your situation. By letting go of the need to control, you will find your answer. Take some time to meditation and sit in silence. The universe is giving you your answer, you just need to listen and pay attention.

Spiritual Powerhouse Blend

  • 3 drops Galbanum
  • 3 drops Frankincense
  • 3 drops Palo Santo
  • 3 drops Tulsi (Holy Basil)
  • 3 drops Elemi
  • 5 drops Lavender

Use in a diffuser, blend in one ounce of a vegetable oil and use for anointing, or add to one ounce of water to make a mist or spray.

(Special note: Although Mimosa carries quite a few essential oils, Galbadum is not one we stock. Christina recommends these sources: Nature’s Gift Stillpoint and  Mountain Rose Herbs.)

Aroma Reading for June: Night-blooming Jasmine

Posted on
Category: Aromatherapy Recipes

By Christina Wilke-Burbach PhD, RMT, CA
www.mindsoulandself.com

The intuitive essential oil for the month of June is Jasmine (Jasminum sambac), also known as Arabian Jasmine or night-blooming Jasmine as the flowers open up at night and close in the morning. It is a shrub or vine with gorgeous white flowers and a highly exquisite and intoxicating aroma. I personally find the aroma headier and sweeter than Jasminum officinale and Jasminum grandiflorum. Though some call Jasmine the ‘King of the Flowers,’ I disagree and instead find it an incredibly feminine and sensual oil that I strongly associate with the moon goddess and the mysteries of the night. It balances the Sacral Chakra (a few inches below your belly button through to your sacrum) the seat of creativity, sexuality, sensuality, pleasure, joy, relationships, and feeling. Jasmine is also an aphrodisiac, commonly used for perfumery. Jasmine is playful, confident, alluring, passionate, charismatic, bewitching, and seductive. She calls forth the part of us that we have forgotten and can help you address relationship concerns. Jasmine essential oil is optimistic, sedating, and calming making it a fabulous emotional healer for depression, anxiety, stress, fear, restlessness, and insomnia. It is also a great oil for dry skin.

My Jasmine forecast for June 2016: June continues the healing that began in May. In our Aroma Reading last month, Fragonia asked you to contemplate spring cleaning your emotions and detoxing your soul. Were you holding on to patterns, emotions, and beliefs that no longer serve you a higher purpose? This month, Jasmine asks you to explore the darkness within, your shadow. Dive deep down into your psyche and face your demons. They are a part of you and have helped create you. Some of us only look for the light and run from the darkness. But this darkness will grow larger and more powerful the more you ignore it.  In order to know your light and joy, you have to understand your darkness and pain. Yin and yang, duality, two sides to the same coin. Life is an ebb and flow with ups and downs. The goddess Jasmine will help you accept and heal your pain by using it as a catalyst for change. The darkness is a rite of passage into the light. It’s time to let go of what has tormented you for so long. You do not need to carry it anymore. Release it and be free.

Jasmine Perfume (5% dilution)

  • 5 drops of Jasmine
  • 4 drops of Vanilla
  • 11 drops of Orange
  • 10 drops of Sandalwood
  • 1 ounce of Jojoba oil

Combine the essential oils in an Amber bottle. Lightly swirl them together to mix. If possible, let them sit for a few days to blend together and ‘marinade’ and then add the jojoba oil to dilute. Apply sparingly to pulse points.

Aromatherapy Recipe: Fragonia

Posted on
Category: Aromatherapy Recipes

By Christina Wilke-Burbach PhD, RMT

The intuitive essential oil for the month of May is Fragonia (Agonis fragrans). It is a shrub grown and distilled through only one producer in Western Australia.  Fragonia is a unique oil on many levels. First, it symbolizes balance as its chemical makeup is a 1:1:1 ratio of oxides, monoterpines, and monoterpenols. Its chemical makeup makes it useful as a respiratory oil, antimicrobial, sedative, anti-inflammatory. Secondly, due to its unique chemical proportions, the producer has trademarked this chemotype of Agonis fragrans, making it perhaps the only trademarked essential oil. Thirdly, it has a beautifully unique aroma….medicinal, citrusy, spicy, sweet, and woody all in one. Finally, Fragonia is one of the most powerful emotional healing and personal growth oils I have ever encountered. It dives deep into your psyche to help release old hurts and heal emotional wounds.  As a Holistic Psychologist, the primary way I use this oil is for emotional release. I have also used it in hypnosis and past life regressions. Fragonia would greatly assist therapists, counselors, and psychologists in psychoanalyses and deep processing techniques.  Inhalation via an aroma inhaler, directly out of the bottle, on a cotton pad or cotton ball, or diffuser will provide more powerful results than topical application. Fragonia is a powerful oil for your toolbox if you are a Reiki practitioner or energyworker. Diffuse this oil during your energy healing sessions to help clients release emotional blockages.

My Fragonia forecast for May 2016: This time of the year is typically associated with “spring cleaning.” We deep clean our home and clean out our gardens to remove the dead of winter and allow new growth to come forth.  Fragonia asks you to contemplate spring cleaning your emotions and detoxing your soul. Are you holding on to patterns, emotions, and beliefs that no longer serve you a higher purpose?  Are your emotions holding you back like a ball and chain? Are you ready to move forward into your highest potential? Remember, the only barriers to personal growth are the ones we ourselves have created.

Blend for Emotional Release

  • 3 drops Fragonia
  • 3 drops Grapefruit
  • 3 drops Marjoram
  • 3 drops Cedarwood
  • 3 drops Roman Chamomile

This blend is meant for either creating an Aroma Inhaler or for in your diffuser. For an inhaler: blend the oils together in a shot glass or little bowl. Soak the cotton wick in the blend and then place into the inhaler. For diffuser: place oils directly into diffuser following the manufacturer’s directions for your type of diffuser.

Spend some time contemplating emotional traumas and wounds that you are ready to release to be transformed.  Clearly identify these negative emotions and patterns.  Think of the root or origin of these patterns. When did they start? How long have you had them? How have they impacted your life? What lessons have you learned? As you inhale the emotional release aromatherapy blend, state the following affirmation: “I release what no longer serves me a purpose. I am ready to move forward and step into my light.” Repeat several times. This is a good technique to do right before bed so your psyche can filter and process as you sleep. Also, as mentioned above, consider combing this blend with energywork modalities such as Reiki or Healing Touch.

Note: Mimosa does not carry Fragonia, because unfortunately our essential oil supplier does not carry it. But you can buy it online from Nature’s Gift or Still Point Aromatics.

Inula: Aromatherapy Recipe for Colds and Other Respiratory Problems

by Christina Wilke-Burbach

The intuitive essential oil for the month of April is Inula (Inula Graveolens). Inula is in the daisy/sunflower family and has a sweet medicinal but floral and intoxicating, powerful aroma. My husband and I were both pretty sick the past few weeks and I was drawn to use Inula (a few drops on a cotton pad and inhale for a few minutes at a time throughout the day). Inula is antibacterial, mucolytic, expectorant, antitussive, and an antihistamine. It is a great respiratory oil and helpful for head colds, coughs, congestion, and asthma.  There are no known hazards or contraindications with this oil. Please do not confuse it with the hazardous oil Inula helenium (elecampane). If Inula is distilled in a copper still, it will turn a beautiful emerald, turquoise, green color. This is a more expensive oil, but is so potent only a drop or two is needed. Due to its aroma, I personally prefer to use it by itself instead of in blends.

My Inula forecast for April 2016: Inula’s aroma, vibration, chemistry, and deep turquoise green color resonate with the higher heart chakra; the healers’ chakra located between the heart and throat. The higher heart asks you to think of how your actions impact not yourself, not others, but all of humanity. The higher heart is also a chakra of transition. Inula asks you to explore your role in helping move humanity forward during these turbulent times. Are you part of the problem or the solution? We are at a pivotal point in our collective journey right now. Be wise with your behaviors and decisions.

Blend and Meditation for the Higher Heart Chakra

  • One drop Inula
  • One drop Ho wood (or Rosewood)
  • One drop Thyme

Place drops of oil on a cotton ball or cotton pad.

Close your eyes and deeply breathe in the aroma. Put your awareness and your attention on the higher heart chakra. Visualize healing energy coming directly from source/divine/heavens down through your crown chakra….through your third eye…..through your throat….through to the Higher Heart… Allow compassion to build up within your higher heart….allow unconditional love for all to build up in your higher heart…….. ….You are completely full of higher heart chakra energy. Have the intent that you want to send healing energy to help heal the world and all of humanity. Feel your higher heart chakra expanding and getting larger and larger…..its filling your entire chest, your entire body……Feel the expansion of your higher heart chakra to encompass everything in the room, outside the room, all the way to the center of the earth all the way around and completely covering the earth. Feel your turquoise higher heart energy healing the world.

When you are ready, bring your higher heart energy back into your center. Relax…..breathe in and breathe out…return to normal space and time. Namaste

Aromatherapy Recipe for March: Roman Chamomile

By Christina Wilke-Burbach PhD, RMT, CA

The intuitive essential oil for the month of March is Roman Chamomile (Anthemis nobilis). Roman Chamomile is calming, relaxing, and is great for anxiety, stress, migraines, headaches, and sleeping problems. It is one of the best oils for spasms and can relax the nerves. It assists with digestive ailments and can also help with aches and pains. It has a very pleasing aroma…smells a bit like hay and apples. Roman Chamomile is one of the safest and gentlest essential oils and can be used with children and pets (avoid if you have hay fever or are allergic to other members of the daisy family). Energetically, chamomile resonates with the solar plexus chakra and helps calm and transform agitated low vibrating emotions like anger, anxiety, and stress. Chamomile is sunny, full of life, peace, and optimism and is symbolic of the approaching Spring Equinox. Life is going to get brighter and things will get better.
My Chamomile forecast for March 2016: Have you been feeling a bit frazzled and on edge? Stressed? Frustrated? Having a hard time sleeping? Slow down and take a moment to breathe. Be in the here and now. Be in the present. We are a society of overbooking, overscheduling, and always on the go. Its ok to be still. Its ok to slow down. Chamomile encourages you to take some ‘me time’ to rest, relax, renew, and rejuvenate and then emerge radiant and vibrant with the approaching Spring!

Pillow Mist Recipe for Insomnia:
4 drops Roman Chamomile
8 drops Neroli
12 drops Atlas Cedarwood
2-ounce spray bottle
Distilled water
1 tablespoon vodka or witch hazel

Directions: Place the vodka or witch hazel in the spray bottle (this acts as a dispersant since water and oils do not mix). Add the essential oils then the gently swirl to blend together. Add the distilled water. When you are ready to go to bed, mist the spray several times on your pillow. Then lay down, breathe in deeply through your nose, hold your breath for a few moments, then slowly breath out your mouth, Repeat the deep breathing for a few rounds as you drift off to sleep. Sweet dreams!

Aroma Reading for February 2016: Rose

By Christina Wilke-Burbach PhD, RMT, CA

The intuitive essential oil for the month of February is Rose (Rosa × damascena). The energy of Rose summons unconditional love; not only for others, but also for yourself. Rose resonates with the heart chakra and invokes high vibrating emotions such as empathy, compassion, joy, peace, gratitude, happiness, and harmony. Rose symbolizes the divine feminine. It is nurturing, sweet, comforting and has the ability to heal deep emotional wounds and comfort the heart. It has antidepressant properties and can heal anger, despair, sorrow, sadness, grief, and loss. Let Rose hold you in her arms and soothe your soul. Everything will be alright. Rose essential oil can be expensive, but it is worth its weight in gold.

My Rose forecast for February 2016: Though the focus of February tends to be on Valentine’s Day and romantic relationships, this month Rose encourages you to look within your own heart at the love you have for yourself. Do you love yourself unconditionally? Do you see your strengths and positive qualities? Are you your own best friend? In order to deeply love others and allow others’ love into our lives, we must first learn to love ourselves. Some affirmations to help you on this journey: “I am worthy of love. I am loving to myself and others. I freely and easily give and receive love.” Sending you much love to light your path. Have a blessed February.

Recipe for Unconditional Love

2 drops Rose
4 drops Cardamom
1 drop Vanilla
3 drops Neroli
6 drops Hawaiian Sandalwood
1-ounce cocoa butter

Mix the essential oils into the cocoa butter and blend well. Apply topically to the heart, chest, neck, and shoulders area. Massage some into your hands, cup them over your face, breathe in the aroma and state the following affirmations several times: “I am worthy of love. I am loving to myself and others. I freely and easily give and receive love.”

The mixture can also be used as a massage cream…Double the recipe to make 2 ounces of cocoa butter.

Lemongrass Recipe for Manifestation

By Christina Wilke-Burbach PhD, RMT, CA

At the beginning of every month in 2016, I will offer an Aroma Reading forecasting the energy for the month along with an aromatherapy recipe. As I was preparing to do the Aroma Reading for this month, my guides interrupted me and told me there was no need to do a reading as the oil for January was Lemongrass (Cymbopogen flexuosus). I heard it loud and clear! The energy of Lemongrass is uplifting, cheerful, and refreshing and I associate it with new beginnings. It helps with mental focus and clarity as well as opens up intuition and your connection to the divine. It is invigorating, motivating, as well as playful. It helps with manifesting and in creating what the heart desires and is full of positive energy. It also purifies energy, beliefs, and patterns that no longer serve you a higher purpose.

My Lemongrass forecast for January 2016: 2015 was a hard year for many people full of lessons, trials, and tribulations. It’s time to leave the past behind and move forward with hope and positivity. The energy of this month is very positive and ripe for change! Now is the time to take a moment in meditation, contemplation, or in journaling to focus and clearly think about, visualize, and then vocalize what you want to manifest, create, and achieve in 2016. Now is the time for action. Call upon your angels, guides, and guardians to assist you and know that your spirit healing team is always there.

Recipe for Manifestation in 2016:

1 drop Sage (for purification)
1 drop Lemongrass (to attract positive energy and new beginnings)
1 drop Lavender (to assist in clarity and in seeing the whole picture)
1 drops Cedarwood (to assist in manifestation)

Write down your goals, dreams, and aspirations for 2016 on a piece of paper.  Then, place one drop each of the above oils on a tea light candle and light the candle with a match. Use the tea light to set your piece of paper on fire and offer the energies up to the divine to be transformed. Please do this ceremony in a safe location like a fire pit or fire place!! Do not blow the candle out…set in a safe location and let it burn out on its own. Many blessings for light and love in 2016!

Herbs to Attract Butterflies & Bees

By Dr. Christina Wilke-Burbach

All of nature lives together in harmony. When one part of the ecosystem is damaged, the entire system is broken. Pollinators, like bees and butterflies, are necessary for our survival. Bees pollinate most of the crops that we use for food. If our food is not pollinated, the crops cannot grow. Then animals and humans, and every other living organism that relies on plants and crops for sustenance do not have food to eat. This could lead to famine and economic disruption.

Pesticides, herbicides, neonicotinoids, and crops modified with pest control characteristics (GMOS) threaten the survival of Monarch butterflies, honeybees, and bumblebees. The chemicals kill Milkweed, the caterpillars’ main source of food. These chemicals also disrupt the bees’ location and tracking instincts leading them to get lost and not be able to find their way home. Chemicals make the bees more prone to disease, suppress their immune system, increase their stress, and are believed to be the culprit for Colony Collapse Disorder, a phenomenon in which bees suddenly and mysteriously disappear from the hive. In recent years, beekeepers in The US, Canada, Europe, Asia, Central America, and South America all report over a 50% decline in their bee populations. In the United Kingdom, three species of bees have already gone extinct. 90% of the wild bee population in the US have died out. The Monarch butterfly numbers are the lowest they ever have been.

If we don’t change our gardening and agriculture methods, not only could the bees and butterflies become extinct, but it could surely threaten our food supplies and ultimately our own survival. As many people are waking up and becoming interested in green and clean living (organic food, natural cleaning products, natural body products, etc) there is a need to translate the natural movement to our own backyards. The following are some things we can all do to increase their bees’ and butterflies’ chances of survival as well as restore harmony and balance to the earth.

  • Respect the bees! Leave their hives alone. Learn the difference between hornets, wasps, and bees. Bees are not the bad guys. They are not aggressive like wasps.
  • Consider becoming a beekeeper!
  • Weeds are ok! Many of us were taught that weeds were “bad.” In fact, Mother Nature lives in harmony and balance. When weeds appear, that is nature’s way of balancing out the soil quality. In fact, most weeds are medicine too!
  • Use natural and organic gardening methods like natural fertilizers (guano, kelp, bloodmeal) and natural pest detractors (neem and some essential oils like lemongrass and citronella).
  • Pull out weeds by hand. This is not only great exercise but a way to get your hands dirty and commune with nature.
  • You want to make sure you only get organic seedlings or organic seeds to plant in your garden. Plants from greenhouses may be sprayed in pesticides and chemicals.
  • Plant organic herbs that attract bees and butterflies. Not only will these assist our bee and butterfly friends, but at the end of the growing season you can harvest your herbs and create wonderful healing teas, tinctures, and balms for yourself and your family. Herbs that attract bees and butterflies include:

Milkweed (Asclepias curassavica, Asclepias incarnata, Asclepias syriacea. At the end of the growing season harvest your Milkweed, dry it, and make a sachet for protection.

Catnip (Nepeta cataria). A favorite of cats, catnip is also a sedative for humans and is beneficial for insomnia, anxiety, and stomach upset.

Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis. Hyssop has been used for its cleansing properties since Biblical times. It is excellent for respiratory system health.

Bee Balm (also known as Wild Bergamot) (Monarda didyma, Monarda fistulosa, Monarda  citriodora and Monarda pectinata). Bee balm is excellent for digestive problems.

Lavender (Lavandula officinalis, Lavandula angustifolia) is great for skin care, anxiety, and stress.

Echinacea (Echinacea purpurea). Echinacea is one of the best herbs for boosting the immune system.
