A goddess of good fortune, beauty, and wealth. Lakshmi (Laxmi) (whose name means “fortune”) is Lord Vishnu’s consort. As her name inmplies, she is the goddess of wealth and prosperity. Here, she is depicted in her four-armed Newari Buddhist form, Maha-Lakshmi (the “bestower of great fortune”). In her upper-right hand she holds the wealth vase. She is also the Hindu Goddess of beauty, compassion, grace, peace, charm, and harmony. In this depiction, she stands on a pink lotus, which is floating on the ocean of milk from which she was born and gold coins fall from one of her hands.
